MenIntroduction This season has seen an innovative approach to the Men’s league. The Old Divisions have been replaced by group’s stage for the first half of the season. Team’s final position in their respective group will determine whether teams compete in the Gold, Silver or Bronze Divisions after New Year. We are also delighted to welcome three new teams to basketball grampian for this season and we are confident that Elgin Eagles, Pecton and Grampian Flyers will all make a significant challenge to the established teams. League The season will commence with 3 Groups of similar strength. The groups are based upon last season’s positions and also include one new team in each group. All the teams in a group will play each other home and away. At the conclusion of the group stages which will be before Christmas, the top two teams from each group will qualify for Gold Division, the middle placed two teams will qualify for Silver Division and the bottom teams will qualify for the Bronze Division. The purpose of the group sections is to qualify for Gold, Silver and Bronze Divisions
The Gold, Silver and Bronze Division will commence on the week commencing 14 January 2009 and will be the main competition of the season. All teams will play each other home and away in their respective Divisions. The winners will be the team with the most points at the conclusion of the section. There will be No play offs unless teams finish the season on identical points and scores. FIBA rules will prevail.

Cups The men will play for 3 knock out tournaments, namely the Challenge Shield, Cameron Cup and Simpson Cup. The draw for the cups will be made on 14 December 2008 by the fixture secretary. All senior men teams will compete for the Challenge Shield with the top 6 sides on 14 December 2008 being seeded along with two wild cards, drawn by the fixtures secretary. Seeding will remain in place for the first two rounds. The semi final will be drawn at the Committee meeting in February 2009. Teams losing in the first round of the Challenge Shield will compete in the Cameron Cup. Teams losing in the second round of the Challenge Shield will compete in the Simpson Cup. Finals All finals will be played at basketball grampian FINALS WEEKEND - 20-22 March 2009 at ISA. |
